Finding Your Authentic Voice

By Jan Marie Dore | June 28, 2008

I had a conversation with Dr. Lynda Klau about what it means to have your authentic voice and to live authentically.

Lynda says that we all yearn to be real and to feel connected to ourselves and others. Often, however, we lose this connection. We’re not living from our deepest passion, and we cannot find a way to bring it back into our lives.

Lynda believes that to live from our authenticity means that we connect with our core, innermost truth and honor our feelings and beliefs. To live authentically means living in harmony with our body, mind and heart.

Some of the things Lynda talks about in this audio recording include:

  • How to recognize your authentic voice

  • How you know if you’re in touch with your authentic voice

  • How you have your authentic voice

  • Where your authentic voice emanates from

  • What conditions need to be in place to get in touch with your authentic voice

  • How it feels when we don’t have our voice

  • How we lose our authentic voice

  • What gets in the way of people hearing it

  • How you can reclaim or get back your authentic voice

  • How having our authentic voice will change our lives

Lynda takes you through an exercise to get in touch with your ‘witness self’ - a key to unlocking your authentic voice. Listen to this conversation to find out how to live from your authentic self and transform your ability to communicate with your self and others.

To Facebook or Not to Facebook?

By Jan Marie Dore | June 27, 2008

I’ve jumped on the Facebook band wagon, and am having great fun so far making connections.

Facebook is the sixth-most trafficked site in the United States. Apparently, the average age on Facebook has changed to a median of 35 -64 this year. It’s not just for the young ones any more!

Once you sign up, you can start building your network by looking for people and groups that fit with what you’re doing. Then start networking!

You’ll want to personalize your page by adding things like photos and a link to the RSS feed for your blog posts - if you have a blog.

What I like about the social media sites is that they’re all about helping others and connecting - not just about promoting. Just today I had someone referred to me who may be a potential joint venture partner.

You can grow your page and your network over time. Add content like pictures, audio, video, and your automatic blog post updates. You can start with just a profile, then add pages, then join groups - or even start your own.

You can create events on Facebook and invite your network to join in. I post all my teleclasses there. It’s a great way to get more visibility and let my network know so they can let their network know, if they think it would be useful to them.

To see my profile go here.

I’ll keep you updated whether I find the time spent useful for growing my business. So far, I’m spending just about 10 minutes a day, and am having fun with it.

Six Secrets To Email Newsletter Success

By Jan Marie Dore | June 26, 2008

An email newsletter is one of the best ways to market your professional services using the Internet.  It’s a great low-cost way to keep in touch with prospects and clients who want to create or expand a relationship with you.

Here are six secrets to ensure the success of your email newsletter.

1. Have a compelling subject line for your email message to encourage subscribers to open and read your newsletter.
Ezine publishers often overlook this simple strategy. You’ve worked hard to write and produce your ezine. It would be a shame if people overlooked reading it because either you didn’t identify yourself clearly in the *from* line, or you didn’t use a compelling subject line that enticed them to open and read. Try to capture their curiosity or get their attention with your subject line. Also, include the name of your ezine in the subject line of each issue so that readers will recognize that it’s from you.

2. Write to a specific target audience.
If you know who you’re writing to and for, you can provide better value. List the specific characteristics of your ideal client that you’re writing to. Use language that your target market will relate to, and demonstrate your expertise in solving their key challenges. When you address their main concerns in your newsletter, they feel valued and heard.

3. Write original content that provides solutions to this niche audience.
Solid, original content is an important aspect of a successful ezine. No matter what your area of expertise, write content that your niche audience wants and needs. Write about the solutions to their key issues. Be a resource for your target group. Give them a reason to hire you.

4. Write in a personal manner and conversational tone.
Write as if you were speaking directly to your ideal client. Share your experiences and learning’s when writing your ezine. Use the word *you* when you write so that the person reading feels as if you are speaking directly to them. Use the person’s name if your broadcast system allows you to automate this feature.

5. Write consistently and keep up with a regular schedule.
Frequency of publishing is important. Publish often, but don’t overdo it. Anywhere from once a week to once a month is fine. Create an editorial calendar and timeline for yourself with deadlines and topics for the next six months so that you can stay on a schedule. Have a reserve of articles written and ready to go so that if an emergency comes up, you won’t miss your deadline. Readers get used to your schedule and notice when an issue is missing.

6. Invite readers to provide feedback, questions, and topic suggestions.
The key to your success online is building relationships with people so that they come to know, like and trust you. Inviting feedback opens up a one-way communication into a two-way conversation. People appreciate the opportunity to give you their opinion or ask a question.

Eight Free Marketing Ideas to Promote Your Expertise

By Jan Marie Dore | June 12, 2008

Promoting your small business can at times be very expensive. There are many techniques, however, that cost you little or no money - only your time. These strategies can be immensely satisfying too as you start to see instant results for your marketing efforts. The response from your prospects and clients will let you know which of the following free and low-cost ideas is right for your business:

1. Make customer service a priority
Providing exceptional customer service will keep your clients coming back and sending you referrals. Follow up by phone or email with people you meet. Have a policy to respond to all inquiries within 24 hours. Provide a personal touch by making phone calls and putting customer’s needs first.

2. Add value
Giving away value that will serve your clients and prospects is a great way to bond your relationships. You can create raving fans by over-delivering on value and being of service in meeting the key needs of your prospects and clients. This doesn’t mean giving away more of your time. You can be creative in thinking about what clients would really like from you over and above the time they spend with you.

3. Expand your database
Creating a targeted list of people who would like to hear from you is the #1 thing you need to do to promote your expertise and expand the reach of your business. Treat every encounter you have as a chance to expand your network.

4. Keep in touch
Designing a ‘keep-in-touch’ strategy is crucial to your business growth. On average, it takes at least seven contacts before people are ready to do business with you. You need to regularly send items like a tips list, a book review, an article, an interview, or a checklist to clients and prospects to keep your services top of mind.

5. Ask for testimonials
Clients are very happy to say nice things about you if you ask them. Place their comments in a prominent place in all your promotional materials (with their permission, of course); at your web site, in your brochure, in your ezine. Ask clients to be as specific as possible, and to write about real results they achieved or a valuable difference you made to them, rather than just general, vague comments that anyone could say.

6. Write and submit articles.
If you like to write, article writing is a very effective promotional tool. Even if you don’t like to write, you can dictate an article into your voice recorder or voice dictation software, and then have it transcribed. Send articles to print publications, online article directories, and specific online sites that your target market would read.

7. Write testimonials and comments for others.
Writing testimonials for people you do business with, or for authors whose books you have read, may get you noticed if they put your comment at their website or in their ezine. Posting to other people’s blogs or in forums and discussion lists related to your target market also works well. Putting a link in your posts will drive traffic to your website.

8. Send a press release.
Sending a press release makes good business sense. You can create a list of media contacts that you could use many times. Write your press release and connect it to a current event in the news or to a holiday season to get noticed. Send it directly to the specific editor for your area of specialty. Don’t make it too salesy or about promoting you or your business - that would be an ad, not a press release.

Choose to take action on any of these ideas to expand on your current marketing strategies and promote your expertise for free.
